A Rogue Route to Direction
At GDC 2019, Phillipe met Dagmar Blommaert of like Charlie, and they immediately hit it off. Dagmar was looking for a male voice for her upcoming game Ghost on the Shore, and she thought Phillipe might be that voice. He went home, excited, and recorded an audition with his partner, the actor Laura Trosser. In the end, however, it wasn't to be, and he accepted his voice wasn't quite the right fit they were looking for.
Six months later, he received an e-mail with subject line "That woman you auditioned with...", and a body reading: "Is she an actor?"
And, so, a Director was born.
Being based in Belgium, like Charlie needed someone in London who could direct Laura locally, helping her bring 'Margo' and 'Nora' to life. Phillipe earned an Assistant Director title for his work on the project, and it sparked an idea: what if, between acting work, he could direct?
Mentors
Phillipe has been extremely fortunate to have worked with a number of incredible directors over his acting career: Tony-and-Olivier-Award-Winner Ivo Van Hove, Audie Award winner Dirk Maggs, BAFTA Breakthrough Kirsty Gillmore, and many more. So when Mark Estdale, head director at OMUK, offered Phillipe to sit in on recordings for mundfish's Atomic Heart he couldn't believe his luck. He's been able to learn from the best of the best, and create his own unique and supportive style of directing.
